Medicaid Benefits

Medicaid and CHIP pay for all qualified children’s dental care

Does my child qualify?

Children from birth through 20 years old who are eligible for Medicaid Texas Health Steps and Comprehensive Care Program services– including Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients–are qualified to receive dental services.

All children enrolled in the CHIP Program are also qualified.

What services are included?

  • Regular dental checkups starting at 6 months of age.
  •  Cleanings, exams, and tips for good dental health.
  •  Services such as fillings, crowns, and root canals if needed.
  •  Emergency dental services.

If your child is currently receiving Medicaid dental services, he will continue to get all the same services he is getting now.

What if we need transportation to the dental office?

The State’s Medical Transportation Program arranges free non-emergency transportation to eligible Medicaid and Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program clients who need it.

Transportation services can include:

  • Tickets to use fixed-route and special transit public transportation bus systems.
  • Reimbursing a friend, neighbor, or family member for gas to drive a client in a personal vehicle to scheduled dental visits.
